Last Friday, I packed a bag and headed to Sandusky for BloggyCon13 - a blog conference that just happened to be only an hour or so from home. When I learned about it this summer, I took it as a sign and took all the necessary steps so that I was able to go. It definitely took a lot of coordinating, but it was well worth it.
The conference was held at Cedar Point. I had never been but when I pulled through the front gates, I’m sure my mouth dropped at the immense size of the park. This was the view of the park from my hotel room window. A big thanks to the kind folks at Uncommon for the great iPhone case for the event which you can see as a reflection.
Cedar Point is right on the shore of Lake Erie. Like just feet away from the water’s edge. And it’s absolutely stunning. This was my view as I walked to my first session Saturday morning. No filter needed.
There were several great sessions Saturday that covered SEO, Pinterest and a great presention by Honda which just so happened to be presented by a Mizzou alum who I later found out graduated the same year I did. (She included a photo of her daughter in a Mizzou shirt in her presentation.) I didn’t know her, but made sure I went up to say hello aftewards. M-I-Z!
With a chunk of my afternoon free, I had invited Andy’s sister to make the drive to walk the amusement park with me. I can’t tell you the last time I rode a roller coaster, but I rode more than six last weekend. At the end of every ride when we stopped to see our photos that the park takes, my sister-in-law is screaming and I’ve got a huge grin on my face. Likely because I was laughing the whole time at her screaming.
The best sister-in-law a girl could ask for. This was as we were in line for our fourth roller coaster. We were in the park until close to midnight. We didn’t get to ride every coaster, but we hit the majority of them! I also got to have nachos as a very late evening snack. For those of you that know me, that pretty much makes any day fantastic.
The view on my walk to Sunday morning’s sessions. Another beautiful morning. I definitely could get used to morning walks like these!
I met so many amazing women at this conference, including :
- Kristen at Celebrate Everyday with Me - An amazing Christian blogger.
- Ashley at Spit Up is the New Black – We actually were tweeting at each other from opposite ends of a table. Crazy!
- Nedra at Adventure Mom – I absolutely love the concept of her blog.
- Stephanie at Football, Food & Motherhood – She first caught my eye because of her amazing aqua bag but we realized we had connected on Twitter earlier.
- Leslie at Put A Little Umbrella In Your Drink – We started chatting while in line for our conference badges and talked throughout the weekend.
- and so many more…
I can’t wait to put a few things into practice here at Melanie Makes in the near future. In fact, I loved it so much I already booked myself for another one day workshop in November.
People ask how I find time to blog and it has really become me time. I do it for me, I do it for our family. What an amazing adventure it has been since I started blogging when Andy was interviewing for residency positions.
