Everyone has their favorite things to buy at Trader Joe’s. There’s the fad products like cookie butter and the latest trend of everything bagel seasoning. But my favorite? Hands down, without a doubt, the one thing I don’t like to share with anyone is their Horseradish Hummus.
The package says that a serving size is two tablespoons and I simply have to laugh. For me, it’s more like I put two tablespoons of it on everything I dip in it.
I had never been to a Trader Joe’s prior to our move to Madison. And then? Well, all bets were off. Especially when our oldest two children were very young and it became a social activity of sorts. Fellow mamas, I have no doubt you understand.
The Trader Joe’s Horseradish Hummus was in our cart every single trip. With it’s tangy kick thanks to freshly ground horseradish, it quickly became one of my go to snacks. Why it has taken me nearly ten years to make my own version, I have no earthly idea.
My five ingredient homemade Horseradish Hummus is so crazy easy. If I let my children touch my food processor, they could easily make it by themselves. But because I don’t share well – do as I say, not as I do and all of that – I don’t mind the five minutes it takes to make a bowl of hummus on a Sunday afternoon that will last us for snacking all week.
Chickpeas, tahini, lemon juice, prepared horseradish and garlic are the stars of this show. They all go into the food processor and then take a quick whirl around until smooth. If you don’t typically have these items hanging out in your fridge and pantry, don’t fret. They’re all easily found at your grocery store.
What is Good to Eat with Hummus?
This Horseradish Hummus also makes a great party food. You could make it a real spread by serving it alongside my Pesto Yogurt Dip, Pecarino Guacamole and Beer Cheese Fondue. Surround the bowls with all of your favorite dipping agents – vegetables, pretzels, pita chips, bread – and watch them disappear!
I also love slathering a piece of toast with this hummus and topping with sliced hard boiled eggs. Hummus toast is a thing and it’s so good!
