Someone once told me I have a way with transforming dessert into breakfast. Probably because recipes like my decadent Banana Chocolate Chip Fluffernutter French Toast Casserole have come out of my kitchen. And what do you know? Oops! I did it again! (And please tell me I’m not the only one singing Britney now…)
A thick swirl of caramel cheesecake and apple pie filling is sandwiched between two layers of light as air coffee cake. This breakfast treat is then topped with a cinnamon sugar streusel before being baked and then drizzled with an apple cider glaze.
In short, this Caramel Apple Cheesecake Coffee Cake is the epitome of fall baked good perfection!
When to Serve Caramel Apple Cheesecake Coffee Cake?
Let’s be real though, this Caramel Apple Cheesecake Coffee Cake is delicious any time of day. To be sure, I had a piece before going to bed last night. You know, to insure I speak nothing but the truth. I aim to please, friends. Anything for you! I mean, I might’ve even gone so far as putting a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top just to make sure.
Speaking of apple desserts, I’m thinking you’d also love my Snickerdoodle Apple Crisp, Apple Cream Cheese Bundt Cake and Apple Skillet Cake with Maple Mascarpone Glaze. Three of my autumn apple favorites!
How to Make Caramel Apple Cheesecake Coffee Cake
[1] First, you’ll make the cheesecake filling. In the bowl of an electric mixer, add cream cheese, sugar, egg and caramel extract.
[2] Cream ingredients together on medium speed until well combined. Scrape filling into another bowl and set aside. (If you have an extra bowl for your electric mixer, you can skip switching bowls!)
[3] To make the coffee cake batter, in the bowl of an electric mixer, add butter and sugar.
[4] Cream together on medium speed until light and fluffy.
[5] Add egg, caramel extract and yogurt to butter and sugar mixture.
TIP: Don’t have plain yogurt? You can substitute sour cream with equally delicious results!
[6] Mix until combined.
[7] Add flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt to mixing bowl.
[8] Mix together until just combined, being careful not to over mix.
[9] Spread half of coffee cake batter onto the bottom of a greased 9″ x 13″ pan.
[10] Spread cheesecake filling evenly over top of cake batter.
[11] Spread apple pie filling into an even layer over cheesecake filling.
[12] Top with dollops of remaining cake batter.
[13] In a small bowl, add sugar, flour and cinnamon.
[14] Whisk together until combined.
[15] Using a pastry blender, cut butter into sugar and flour mixture until butter pieces are the size of peas.
[16] Sprinkle cinnamon sugar topping over top of cake batter in an even layer. Bake for 40-45 minutes or until toothpick inserted into middle of cake removes cleanly. Allow to cool for 15 minutes before serving.
After the coffee cake has cooled for 15 minutes, it’s time for a deceptively simple apple cider glaze that is drizzled over the top. Without a doubt, the perfect finishing touch!
How to Store Cream Cheese Coffee Cake
If you’re lucky enough to have any leftover slices of this Caramel Apple Cheesecake Coffee Cake, you’ll want to store them covered in the fridge because of the cream cheese within the coffee cake. Stored properly, they’ll last two to three days.
How to Reheat Coffee Cake
Not a fan of cold cake? No problem! Any leftover pieces of this coffee cake can easily be reheated either in the microwave on full strength for approximately 20 seconds, or my preferred method, in the oven. For the latter, you’ll simply want to wrap the remaining cake or cake slices in aluminum foil and cook in a 300° oven until warmed through.
