This is it. Day 1 of a hopefully healthier and slimmer me.
You see, since moving this summer, I’ve gained around 8 pounds. UGH. Definitely not liking what I’m seeing in the mirror. Lately I’ve been trying to figure out my game plan for taking action. And I was drawing a blank. I can’t quite put my finger on what I’ve done differently in the past few months to put on the unwanted weight.
And then I opened my inbox last week. A blog reader named Nicole, who also happened to work with Andy as a nurse in Wisconsin, sent me an e-mail about her Advocare business and their 24 day challenge which has helped her to reach her pre-babies weight. Yes, babies. She has three children the same age as ours. My interest was definitely piqued.
A few e-mail exchanges and a phone call later and today marks Day 1 of my 24 Day Challenge. I’ll be honest, it really wasn’t as difficult as I thought it might be. I felt like I was eating something every couple of hours. I wasn’t deprived like I felt when I’ve tried other means to improve my health. The worst part – other than taking “before” photos which further illustrated I need to do this – was a fiber drink I had this morning. It doesn’t taste bad, it’s a consistency thing. I have food texture issues. I’d liken the texture to that of a super pulpy orange juice. I don’t do pulp. But I survived and really, if that was the worst part of Day 1, I’m considering it an amazing success!
Per Nicole, “The ultimate goal of the 24 Day Challenge is to jump start a new healthy lifestyle for an individual, couples or family. The average weight loss is 10 pounds and 10 inches in 24 days, nation wide. The great thing is that this challenge teaches you how to eat properly, so as long as you continue your learned habits you will continue to lose and/or maintain, depending on your goals”
I’d love to lose 10 pounds. Losing 15 would be extremely thrilling. I think that it’s possible because I’m not doing this alone. I’ve talked to Nicole three times now on the phone and several times via text. She’s coaching me and motivating me to be my best self. Last night she called to walk me through how my first day would go and I chatted with her again just now so that she could check-in and make sure I was on the correct path. Turns out I needed a bit more protein and I might be better off switching one of my snacks to veggies instead of both being fruit. I should be eating more? Crazy!
As I’m typing, I’m watching the Mizzou game on ESPN and what do you know, an Advocare commercial came on. Jason Witten, who plays for the Dallas Cowboys, is in the commercial with his wife. Something Nicole told me that I was intrigued by is that Advocare’s celebrity endorsers are not compensated for their endorsement. To me, this speaks volumes to the quality & efficacy of AdvoCare’s products. Drew Brees, quarterback of the New Orleans Saints also endorses Advocare.
I’m not a celebrity by any means, but here’s to a journey of an improved me. One day at a time. Just 23 more to go.
