As Camryn didn’t have school yesterday, I took it upon myself to plan a bit of a road trip adventure. Granted, if she tells her teachers or friends that I took them to Staples for said adventure, I might get a quizzical look or two in the carpool line this afternoon. Little do they know, I’ve found the newest hot spot for the school aged crowd.
Who am I kidding? I had as much fun as the menagerie did!
Select Staples stores have an expanded selection of educational supplies. The one closest to us was in a suburb west of us. A road trip in the making. I plugged the address in my GPS and away we went.
I knew that the Crayola “color wall” that I had been told about would be the star of the show for the girls and was definitely right on that assumption.
A rainbow of colors to make your very own! It was comical to listen to the girls read the name of each and every crayon and deem them all their new favorite.
This was a super kid friendly display as the girls simply picked a tin from the bottom, opened it up and filled it with their favorite colors. They both enjoy coloring nearly every day so to have a fresh stock at the ready in the colors that they chose had them super excited. They were able to get duplicates – or triplicates!, or quadruplicates?! – of some and everyone was happy. As long as they fit in the tin, they were good to go.
While the girls continued to fill their crayon tin, Carson and I rounded the corner to check out the rest of the Learn & Play shop featuring some of our favorite brands like Crayola, Melissa & Doug and LeapFrog.
I’m such a sucker for Melissa & Doug products as I love that so many of their toys are wooden and very durable. As Carson has many of the girls’s hand me down toys, I was looking for something new that would be just for him. I narrowed down my choices to the puzzles and then held up two for him to choose from – a chunky puzzle with safari animal shapes or sound puzzle.
Being the very loud boy that he is, I wasn’t too shocked that he pointed to the sound puzzle. He was obviously quite proud that he was going to be taking it home with him.
I also caved and got him this Rainbow Caterpillar. It’s similar to a puzzle as each gear is interchangable and it has colored pegs underneath to match them with. He caught on quickly and enjoyed taking the gears off and putting them back on. He also thought it was hysterical when I would spin the gears really fast as if the caterpillar was running. He’s easily entertained.
All in all, I’d say we had a great little road trip adventure. Everyone – except for mama, why is that always the case? – walked away with something new to enjoy.
So maybe that’s not 100% true. When the girls were in the living room playing with Carson and the Rainbow Caterpillar, I might have used a few of the new colors myself. That Macaroni and Cheese crayon was begging me to test it out!
