i promised to share the details on this one a while back and i’m finally making good on that promise!
about four years ago, i decided that i was done buying commercial cleaning supplies. they’re expensive and they aren’t good when you have little ones (and furry ones) around so i simply called it quits and started making my own. this is where i will admit i do buy one of those drop-ins for the back of the toilet though. when i find myself with enough time to scrub toilets with greater frequency, i’ll kick it to the curb as well.
this surface cleaner is perfect as it’s made out of only three ingredients. i keep it under the sink in each bathroom and i swear it lasts a year. i just filled up each bottle a couple of weeks ago and doubt i’ll make it again until after we move. it cleans surfaces with minimal elbow grease and i’m comfortable with any of the kids being around when i’m using it.
here’s the recipe :
- 16 oz hot water
- 2 teaspoons borax
- 1/4 teaspoon liquid castile soap
put all ingredients in a spray bottle – i found mine at home depot and they’re cheaper and i like them better than those you can pick up at target – and swirl around. done. that’s all there is to it. i use dr. bronner’s castile soap and if you use the peppermint, it makes everything smell so clean and fresh when you’re done.
i use borax and castile soap in other diy cleaning concotions around the house as well so i really get my money’s worth.
do you make your own cleaning products or do you prefer to purchase them?
