A peek inside of our family life and what we’re up to at home, week by week.

Leighton’s class is studying the lifecycle of butterflies and their first butterfly hatched Tuesday after the long weekend. We’ve used this kit at home and even given it as a birthday gift. If you haven’t tried it and have little ones at home, I highly recommend it. We recently used the same company’s ladybug kit as well with great results.

The girls are finishing up their spring session of ice skating lessons. Growing up in a small town, I never thought I’d have children taking ice skating lessons – especially as I’m so terrible at it! – but they both seem to enjoy it.

I have XM radio in my car which I’m so thankful for given the amount of time I spend in my car on a daily basis. I usually listen to my favorite country station but lately when it’s a song I don’t care for, I flip it to the 90s station to see what’s on. It’s like an instant time machine to my past. On this morning on the way to school, this classic was on and the big girls loved it and wondered if I could get the song on my phone. I explained it was an old song that was popular when I was younger and now they refer to this station as the “old station.” Nice.

During naptime for the middle two and after feeding Kellyn, she fell asleep in my arms. Then the original first born decided to take up the remaining space on my lap. I had to snap a photo to text to Andy. Even though my laptop was by my side, these two put a halt to any work I had planned on tackling before heading out to carpool.

Both girls are going to play baseball this summer and Leighton had her first tball practice. We lucked out and she has two great coaches. Even though the league is coed, she is one of only two girls on her team – not that it bothers her one bit.

We’re still enjoying the firepit in the backyard as our schedule allows – even on evenings where it’s chillier than it should be for May. I know I’ll enjoy looking back at photos like this one when the menagerie is older. They look forward to these nights so much and Andy and I have as much of a good time as they do. I only wish we all didn’t reek of smoke afterwards.
