I have to give credit to my five year old daughter for inspiring me to create this Coffee and Donut Ice Cream with Mocha Hot Fudge Swirl. A few weeks ago as I was getting everyone breakfast, entertaining the baby and trying to unload the dishwasher, I overheard a ridiculous conversation between my two older daughters. They were eating donuts and the five year old was marveling that if she “took a drink of milk with donut still in her mouth it tasted so good!” Disgusting but true. Milk reminded me of ice cream and what is thought to be the perfect companion to donuts? Coffee! And thus this recipe was born.
Yes, my mind works in bizarre ways. I’m blaming it on the baby who has decided to quit sleeping through the night and naps less than a half hour a day. I’m guessing she’ll be demanding credit for inspiring this recipe as well.
And if coffee and donuts are a perfect pair, what could make this ice cream even better than a swirl of my Mocha Hot Fudge Sauce? For the record, that was truly a rhetorical question as there really isn’t much that could make this ice cream any better. That being my humble opinion and all.
A deliciously easy homemade coffee ice cream is created with only five ingredients before being studded with mini chocolate donuts and then swirled together with Mocha Hot Fudge Sauce. The end result is absolute summer perfection. A sweet treat that’s suitable for dessert OR breakfast. Who am I to judge?
I used store bought mini donuts in this recipe, but definitely feel free to get creative! I can only imagine how delicious this ice cream would be if you chose to make these decadent Peanut Butter Glazed Chocolate Donuts, these dreamy Triple Chocolate Donuts or these fall favorite Chocolate Pumpkin Cake Donuts.
Ice cream fans, this Coffee and Donut Ice Cream with Mocha Hot Fudge Swirl isn’t the only delicious ice cream treat in my arsenal! I have no doubt you’d also fall in love with my minty Grasshopper Ice Cream Tart, delicious Strawberry Cheesecake Ice Cream Pie and of course, my coffee shop mashup Mocha Coconut Frappuccino Pie.
