Welcome to another family favorite, now with my own personal spin on it. When I was living at home, I remember coming home from basketball practice and always being excited to see this on the dinner table. Granted, who is ever NOT excited to see pizza on the menu?
Now as a mama, I love this Deep Dish Bubble Pizza even more as it’s super easy to prepare, loved by everyone and can even be made in advance. And did I mention it’s easy to customize to fit your own personal taste? If that’s not a five star recipe, I don’t know what is!
What is Bubble Pizza?
This Deep Dish Bubble Pizza gets it’s name thanks to a shortcut crust made of refrigerated biscuits. When they bake, they bubble up and around the pizza toppings placed on top, turning a golden brown and deliciously flaky.
The original recipe which I had copied from my mom onto a recipe card long ago – Does anyone still use recipe cards? – used refrigerated biscuit dough as the base of this pizza. Sure, I could’ve left well enough alone, but being the carb lover that I am, I yearned for more crust.
A deep dish type of crust! Enter those grand sized biscuits in a tube you find in the refrigerated section of the grocery store. These are the key to this mile high pizza. True to the recipe’s title, they bubble up creating the perfect deep dish crust I crave.
TIP: I’ve also put a Mexican spin on this recipe with my Taco Bubble Pizza. Let’s just say Fritos are included!
I love that this bubble pizza recipe includes no yeast or doesn’t force you to roll out dough – the same can be said for my Perfect Pizza Crust! Topped with Italian sausage, pepperoni and vegetables (or your favorite toppings!) before being showered with cheese, this main dish is an absolute family favorite.
I love topping my slices with grated Parmesan cheese and red pepper flakes. Delicious! If you’re looking for more original flavors on your pizza, I’m betting you’d love my Chicken Bacon Swiss Spaghetti Pizza or Bacon Double Cheeseburger Pizza.
Can You Make Bubble Pizza Ahead of Time?
Looking for a dinner shortcut? I love to prepare this Deep Dish Bubble Pizza during lunch while my two littlest are eating and then simply place it back in the oven covered with foil to reheat when we’re ready for dinner. After an hour in a 350 degree oven, dinner is ready and I’ve given myself time to help with homework, referee end of day spats, or even worse, pack even more boxes for our impending move!
